| New Qantas Chief Executive |
OPPORTUNITY FOR CHANGE AT QANTASThe Transport Workers' Union of Australia responds to the annoucement of a new Chief Executive at Qantas as an opportunity to reshape the company. Qantas named Alan Joyce, the head of its Jetstar offshoot, as Chief Executive Designate of the airline group from today and he will take over from outgoing Chief Geoff Dixon after the company's annual general meeting in November. TWU National Airline Official Scott Connolly said, "The TWU is eager to meet with the new Chief Executive to work through issues at the airline." Qantas recently announced plans to axe 1500 jobs worldwide and scrap their hire plans for 1200 workers despite being on track to record another billion dollar profit this year. Mr Connolly said, "The TWU call on the new Chief Executive Designate Alan Joyce to adopt better and safer working conditions at Qantas and provide job security for Qantas workers and their families." |
