WOOLWORTHS CHARITY A SHAM

Woolworths stores right across Queensland are holding sausage sizzles to raise money for Children's Hospital's at the expense of their employees.

Dock Hands and Managers at the Woolworths Warehouse at Larapinta are too busy eating and cooking sausages to unload their trucks.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams said, "I've been receiving calls from drivers telling me they've been waiting up to 6 hours for their truck to be unloaded."

"These drivers, under the Fatigue Management Act could be breaking their driving hours, which they incur heavy fines and penalties because Woolworths is ignoring their number one responsibility, their job and looking after their employees."

Mr Williams said, "The biggest worry is that these drivers are now behind on their runs and could feel the pressure to make up the time on our roads."

To date there have been 52 heavy vehicle fatalities on QLD Roads, the most recent, four fatalities from the crash between three semi-trailers and a car south of Gympie.

The TWU calls on Woolworths to not only help look after the wellbeing of QLD's sick children but to also look after the safety of their employees.
