BUS SAFETY MEETING

The Transport Workers' Union will today meet with the QLD Transport Department in a bid to make QLD buses safer.

The meeting comes following an increase in bus crashes in QLD and after a 67 year old woman died in hospital after sustaining injuries from a bus crash in Redcliffe, North of Brisbane.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams said, "The TWU will call on Transport Minister John Mickel to fit protective screens and seatbelts in every QLD bus."

Mr Williams said, "It is not acceptable for the QLD Government to say it's too expensive to save lives on our roads."

The TWU hope to achieve a commitment from the QLD Government that they will investigate and install appropriate safety devices in every QLD bus.

The TWU will meet with the QLD Transport Department at 12noon today.
