THE TWU ACCOMPLISHES SAFER BUSES IN QLDThe Transport Workers' Union has achieved a commitment from the QLD Government that they will make QLD buses safer. The commitment comes following a meeting between the TWU and the QLD Transport Department today following the death of a 67 year old female passenger in a bus crash in Redcliffe, North of Brisbane. The QLD Transport Department promised the TWU the following; - Seatbelts and roll-over frames to be installed in every bus working in a zone 3 (steep and very steep hill area) by the end of the year - More money to be injected into roll-over frames for QLD buses - 90 more CCTV cameras to be installed in regional QLD buses, following an increase in assaults on QLD Bus drivers. TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams said, "The meeting was very productive and the TWU look forward to further meetings with the QLD Transport Department to help make QLD buses safer." The QLD TWU will also continue to monitor the QLD Government's progress and continue to lobby for seatbelts to be installed on every QLD bus. |
