Dear Minister for Main Roads and Local Government,

On behalf of thousands of truck drivers the Transport Workers' Union would like to congradulate you on your commitment to build 25 new rest areas in Queensland for heavy vehicle drivers.

To date there have been 58 heavy vehicle fatalities on Queensland roads and the TWU believes the additional rest areas will help alleviate truck driver fatigue and reduce the State's increasing heavy vehicle road toll.

The Transport Workers' Union is an active advocate for safety on our roads for heavy vehicle drivers and motorists and we look forward to being involved in the consultation process to determine the best locations for these new rest bays.

I believe if the Queensland Government and the Transport Workers' Union work together on this project we will help save lives on our roads.
