QLD Bridges
REVIEW OF ALL QLD BRIDGES

The Transport Workers' Union is today calling on the Queensland Government to carry out an urgent safety audit of all QLD bridges following a serious rock incident.

Rocks were thrown from the Ninderry Road Overpass Yandina yesterday smashing a truck's windscreen and forcing the driver to swerve his vehicle and narrowly miss colliding with a car.

According to Police, two 17-year-old men have been charged with wilful damage and will appear in court at a later date.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams said, "If these two men are found guilty their charge should be upgraded to attempted manslaughter."

"They have gone out of their way to severely injure someone."

Mr Williams said, "The TWU also call on the QLD Government to carry an urgent safety inspection and erect protective fencing on all QLD bridges so that projectile objects can not be thrown onto oncoming vehicles."

The TWU will also be writing to the QLD Government requesting an urgent meeting to discuss this important road safety matter.
