SAFETY INSPECTION NEEDED AT VIRGIN BLUEThe Transport Workers' Union has been denied access into Virgin Blue at Brisbane Airport to carry out a safety inspection. The TWU wants to conduct a safety audit at Virgin Blue following a number of serious workplace accidents at the airline. It has been reported that two baggage handlers have sustained serious injuries on the job. TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams said, "The TWU do not tolerate unsafe work environments that put workers at risk." Mr Williams said, "The TWU wants a full scale safety review to ensure the safety of all Virgin Blue workers." The TWU will be working with QLD Workplace Health and Safety to investigate these serious workplace accidents and will be submitting an application to the Commission to force Virgin Blue to undergo a safety audit.
