SEATBELTS A MUST(2 Serious Bus Accidents in 2 Days) The Transport Workers' Union is today renewing their call for seatbelts to be fitted in every Queensland bus following another serious bus accident. At 8:30 this morning a school bus and truck collided on Middle Road, Purga. According to Police the bus driver was thrown from the vehicle and he sustained serious head and leg injuries and one student received minor injuries. TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams said we need a public transport system that doesn't put the lives of passengers and students at risk. "Queensland has had two serious bus accidents in 2 days and passengers have sustained serious and minor injuries because they haven't been restrained." Mr Williams said, "If the Western Australia Government can make seatbelts mandatory in every school bus why can't we?" The TWU calls on the Queensland Labor Party and the LNP to adopt a seatbelt policy for Queensland buses to help prevent future passenger injuries. |
