NEW LAWS FOR ROCK THROWING OFFENDERS - A step in the right directionThe Transport Workers' Union Queensland welcomes the new laws passed in State Parliament targeting rock throwing offenders but says more can be done. Under the new laws people who engage in the reckless behaviour of throwing objects at vehicles can be sent to jail whether someone was hurt or not. TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams said, "The TWU welcomes the tough new penalties but believes prevention is the key." "Offenders especially juveniles don't care about the law, they will only stop taking part in reckless behaviour if they are prevented." The TWU will continue to campaign for security cages on every overhead bridge in Queensland and urges the Queensland Government to implement a strong education program with the message "Rock Throwing Kills". |
