THREAT OF GARBAGE STRIKE IN BRISBANE

The Transport Workers' Union Queensland has called for an urgent meeting with Sita Environmental Solutions Management to try to advert strike action planned for Friday.

Sita Garbage Workers who are contracted out by Brisbane City Council plan to go on strike on Friday if their EBA is not altered.

According to TWU Sita Members new garbage workers are being paid as skilled labours despite them not completing the company's training program.

Hughie Williams the Branch Secretary of the Transport Workers' Union said it is important that all garbage workers undergo training to be able to safely perform their duties.

"Brisbane City Council garbage workers have tight deadlines to meet and it is important they undergo training and get paid according to their skill level to deliver the best service to Brisbane City Council residents."

The TWU hopes management will be cooperative to prevent disruption to garbage services across Brisbane.
