Brisbane garbage strike averted
BRISBANE GARBAGE STRIKE AVERTED

The Transport Workers' Union has won better working conditions for Brisbane Garbage Workers preventing a garbage strike in Brisbane.

TWU Sita Garbage Workers planned to go on strike on Friday due to a number of workers being paid incorrectly under the trainee rate of pay which is $6-$7 an hour less.

However following a meeting between the TWU and Sita Management, Sita Management has agreed to fix their pay structure and back pay workers who have been paid incorrectly.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams said, "$6-$7 an hour less makes an enormous difference to someone's take home pay".

"I have recieved phone calls from garbage workers families who have been struggling to make ends meet under this pay structure."

Mr Williams said, "Residents should not be alarmed, garbage will be picked up as usual in Brisbane on Friday."

The TWU plans to continue to improve Sita Garbage Workers conditions through their upcoming EBA negotiations.
