Loading Zones In Brisbane CBD

After a public meeting in King George Square with Courier and Taxi Truck drivers, the TWU and a small delegation of members are now in talks with Brisbane City Council to address concerns over changes to CBD loading zones.

The changes to loading zones result from the BCC’s City Cycle scheme, with some loading zones making way to accommodate bike stations. While the BCC maintains there has been no net loss of loading zones with the scheme, confusion has reigned within the courier industry due to conflicting signage and poor communication about the changes.

Heading up the negotiations for the TWU is Senior Organiser Greg Williams who has praised the way delegates have handled the issue in consultation with council.

“Our delegates were quick to alert us of their concerns and from then it’s been a smooth process of identifying each problem and bringing it to council.

“So far we’ve been able to get some minor changes made, like having signage corrected, and we’ll continue to tick off each issue over the next month before speaking further with council in late September.”

BCC have pledged to involve the TWU in planning for the next stage of the City Cycle scheme when it is rolled out through the inner-city suburbs.
