Airport Security60 food handling staff at Qantas are working without Australian Federal Police security Clearances. A recent report in The Sunday Mail says Qantas in Brisbane has employed 60 extra staff from an outside agency for catering, without checking their backgrounds. A former Qantas catering employee told The Sunday Mail, "the casual staff are working in the washing up area at the airport catering facility and there's nothing to stop them walking from one area to another." TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "It's absolutely paramount that all airline staff undergo full security checks to minimize the risk of a terrorist attack or criminal threat." Qantas executive general manager services Curtis Davies responded to the TWU's call for better security by saying Qantas is in the process of obtaining background checks for these staff. But if you believe you haven't been properly trained or the security standards at Qantas aren't up to scratch, Please contact the TWU Office on (07) 3890 3066. |
