Loading Zones to be boosted in Brisbane CBD - Following TWU CampaignIn a meeting with the QLD TWU, Lord Mayor Campbell Newman has agreed to increase the number of loading zones for professional Courier Drivers in the City. The TWU has been vigorously campaigning for additional loading zones in the Brisbane CBD, following reports of courier drivers missing their deadlines and being harassed by parking inspectors due to the lack of parking in the city. TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says,"Since 9/11 all under building parking has been closed off to courier drivers and no additional parking has been provided." The TWU raised this issue with Lord Mayor Campbell Newman and inspected the city streets with Brisbane City Councilor Rick Simpson and Courier Drivers Leanne Hudson (Couriers Please) and Peter Smith (Toll Priority). Following the inspection Brisbane City Council agreed to allocate 11 new loading zones for Courier Drivers in the Brisbane CBD. The TWU will meet with Brisbane City Councilor Rick Simpson early next year to review extra loading zones in the Valley. |
