5 People injured at Qantas by Dangerous Chemical

The Transport Workers Union has been informed about a Chemical Spill at Qantas at Brisbane Airport that resulted in five people being rushed to hospital.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "Approximately five litres of FORMALIN, the chemical used for embalming bodies leaked out onto the Sortation System."

"To the TWU's knowledge there was no Dangerous Chemical Label on the esky to inform people of the toxic product inside."

Mr Williams says, "After a short amount of time three Qantas Employees and two BCS Employees reported burning sensations to their bodies and they were taken to hospital."

The TWU now seeks a full investigation into the lack of labelling on the container and Qantas's inappropriate handling of the safety issue I.E not informing the appropriate Emergency Services of the incident.
