The QLD TWU is actively campaigning ... to keep the Christmas Road Toll DownThe QLD Transport Workers Union is out in force at a Truck Pad today urging truck drivers and motorists to be careful on our roads during the Christmas Break. To date there has been 65 Heavy Vehicle Fatalities on QLD Roads this year 17 more than this time last year. TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says the loss of life needs to stop. "Motorists need to plan their trips, stop, revive and respect heavy vehicles on our roads this Christmas and the State Government needs to start playing an active role in helping to reduce the heavy vehicle road toll." The TWU would like to see the QLD Government: - Develop a Heavy Vehicle Road Safety Committee comprising of QLD Transport Authorities - Create a Fatigue Management Plan for the Transport Industry - Enforce a tougher Chain of Responsibility Legislation - Review the State's Road Infrastructure The TWU believes a working party of Government Officials and Transport Personnel should help to reduce the State's increasing heavy vehicle road toll. |
