ATT: QLD Transport Minister QLD TRUCK DRIVERS ARE DYING AT AN ALARMING RATETo date the Queensland Heavy Vehicle Road Toll is at 65, 17 more than this time last year after two truck drivers were killed in a head on crash south of Warwick last night. TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "My condolences go out to the families of these truck drivers and the TWU promises to campaign harder than ever to try to reduce the heavy vehicle road toll." The TWU will campaign for a Government Industry Sub-Committee comprising of the Transport Minister and QLD Transport Authorities such as the RACQ and the TWU to be set up, to discuss and implement the safety measures needed. The TWU will also fight for: - A full inquiry into the head on crash at Warwick - A Fatigue Management Plan for the Transport Industry - A tougher Chain of Responsibility Legislation - Review of the State's Road Infrastructure Mr Williams says, "Truck driver deaths should no longer be tolerated." |
