The TWU calls on Justice Minister Kerry Shine to help reduce our Road CarnageThe QLD Transport Workers' Union will meet with Attorney General and Justice Minister Kerry Shine this morning to seek an urgent inquest into heavy vehicle fatalities. The call comes in the wake of another semi-trailer fatality on QLD Roads this morning bringing the heavy vehicle road toll to 20 this year, 15 more than this time last year. TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "Too many people are dying from truck related crashes on our roads and we need to know why this is happening and put legislation and safety measures in place to help reduce the loss of life." Mr Williams says, "He welcomes State Coroner Michael Barnes plans to review heavy vehicle fatal crashes but believes an inquest is the only way to get to the bottom of this horrific problem." The TWU will disclose the results of this meeting after the event. The Meeting: When: 11am Where: Brisbane State Law Building |
