Truck fatality inquest
We are one step closer to reducing Truck Fatalities

QLD Attorney General and Justice Minister Kerry Shine agrees the State's heavy vehicle road toll is appalling and he will report the issue to Premier Anna Bligh as soon as possible.

The call comes after TWU Officials met and recited the States heavy vehicle road toll to the Minister this morning.

65 people were killed in heavy vehicle crashes last year, 18 more than the previous year and 20 people have lost their lives this year.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "The Minister has also agreed to discuss the TWU's request for an inquest into heavy vehicle fatalities to determine the causes of these crashes."

Mr Williams says,"We need to find out why these crashes are occurring and put legislation and safety measures in place to protect motorists and truckies on our roads."
