21 Truck Fatalities
The TWU Keeps Count: 21 Truck Fatalities

The QLD Transport Workers' Union wants to know how many lives have to be lost on QLD Roads before something is done.

The call comes after a truck driver was killed on the Cunningham Highway at Cunningham's gap this morning bringing the heavy vehicle road toll to 21.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "At this rate we will succeed last year's horrific 65 deaths."

Mr Williams says,"Urgent action is needed and the QLD Government needs to set up a sub-committee comprising of Transport Authorities such as the RACQ and the TWU to start tackling this problem."

The TWU is also calling on Premier Anna Bligh to agree to an inquest into heavy vehicle fatalities to find out why these crashes are occurring.
