Transport Meeting

ATTENTION: State and Federal Transport Ministers

An Inquest is the only way to reduce the Nation's heavy vehicle road toll

The QLD Transport Workers' Union is calling on the State and Federal Transport Minister's to discuss an inquest into heavy vehicle fatalities.

The call comes with the Federal and State Transport Ministers meeting today to debate a plan to fit digital tachographs to heavy road vehicles.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "It's a well known fact that digital tachographs can be tampered with, so how exactly are they going to save lives?"

Mr Williams says, "An inquest into heavy vehicle fatalities will tell us the cause/causes of these crashes and what legislation and safety measures need to be put in place to reduce our heavy vehicle road toll."

The QLD TWU will be closely monitoring the outcome of this meeting.
