WORKPLACE FATALITY NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATEDA 56 year old man has died in a heavy vehicle crash on the Sunshine Coast at Cooroibah this morning and it needs to be treated as a workplace accident and not a road fatality. It's believed the tow track the man was driving left the road on McKinnon Drive and collided with a tree. TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "We need to find out the cause/causes of this workplace accident so safety measures can be put in place." Mr Williams says, "If a person was killed in a coal mine, the whole mine would be shut down, why is the transport industry being treated different?" The TWU is also calling on Premier Anna Bligh to approve an inquest into heavy vehicle fatalities to help put an end to Queensland's soaring road toll. |
