Compliance Officer
IMPORTANT GOVERNMENT POSITION VACANT

The QLD TWU will meet with the Transport Department today in a bid to highlight the need for a Chief Compliance Officer.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "The position has been vacant for at least four months."

Mr Williams says, "The role of the Government's Chief Compliance Officer is to investigate reports of unsafe trucks, truckies driving illegal hours and drug use within the Transport Industry."

Mr Williams says, "How are we going to keep our roads safe, if the Government isn't investigating serious road safety breaches."

To date there has been 26  heavy vehicle fatalities on QLD Roads, 21 more than this time last year.

Mr Williams says, "Prevention is the key to saving lives."
