The QLD TWU helping to Save our EnvironmentOn Saturday, 29th March 2008 the TWU will be taking part in Earth Hour. All lights at the TWU Head Quarters will be turned off at 8pm for one hour. TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "We are doing our bit, turning lights off and unplugging power appliances to help save our environment." On 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour. This massive collective effort reduced Sydney's energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, which is equivalent to taking 48,000 cars off the road for one hour. Mr Williams says, "It's important that we get involved so future generations can see and experience our natural wonders." To be a part of Earth Hour 2008 or to find out more visit www.earthhour.org |
