Taxi Drivers
$2 isn't enough to encourage Taxi Drivers into the Industry

The QLD TWU welcomes the Government's latest taxi driver incentive but says more needs to be done to encourage and retain taxi drivers in the industry.

As of tomorrow taxi drivers in most major Queensland cities will receive an extra $2 for their late night shifts.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "Taxi drivers need more than $2 to keep them in the industry."

Mr Williams says, " There needs to be better security devices in taxis, better training and wages for people to even consider taxi driving as an attractive form of employment."

The TWU's calls come following reports of taxi drivers being held up at knife-point for their takings and taxi drivers paying half their fuel, tax and being given no annual leave.
