Under Labor 457 Visas will not apply to the Transport Industry

Former Federal Shadow Immigration Tony Burke outlined Labor's position on 457 Visas at the TWU's General Meeting.

Mr Burke stated if Labor gets into Government:

- 457 Visas will only apply to specific industries such as nursing

- Overseas workers will be looked after and paid the Australian going rate of pay

- 457 Visas will not apply to the Transport Industry

With Labor now in Government the TWU hopes new Immigration Minister Chris Evans will follow through with Mr Burke's plan and get rid of 457 Visas in the Transport Industry.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "457 Visas allow unskilled, untrained, inexperienced and unsafe foreign drivers on our roads."
