TWU MEMBERS PAY TRIBUTE TO A LONG SERVING AIRLINE WORKER

TWU Officials and Members will today attend the funeral of a long time serving airline worker who died at Qantas earlier this week.

63 year old Shirley Cuthbert fell to her death from a Qantas 747 at the Brisbane International Terminal on Sunday while loading meals onto the aircraft.

TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, "Shirley will be greatly missed; she was a hard worker who was well respected by all her workmates."

Mr Williams says, "The TWU is still waiting to hear the Coroners and Workplace Health and Safety Report in regards to this workplace fatality."

The TWU has also called for a National Review of machinery and equipment used at Qantas due to reports and allegations of serious safety and security breaches at the company.

The celebration of Shirley's life will commence at 11.00am today.
