New Laws
QUEENSLAND'S ROAD TOLL TO SOAR

Queensland's heavy vehicle road toll looks set to sky rocket following changes to the State's Transport Legislation Bill.

State Parliament passed a motion to allow truck drivers to drive 12 hour days if their company does not have a Fatigue Management Plan in place, 14 hrs if the company does have a Fatigue Management Plan in place and 16 hours if the company has an Advanced Fatigue Management Plan.

But TWU Branch Secretary Hughie Williams says, " It's unsafe and unhealthy to work 16 hour days."

Mr Williams says, "To date the QLD Heavy Vehicle Road Toll is at 35, 15 more than the previous year and QLD is on track to recording our worst heavy vehicle road toll."

The TWU is against 16 hour days for truck drivers and we will be campaigning to change the new law.
