Low-paid workers to get $21.66 a week pay riseThe Australian Fair Pay Commission has just handed down it's third minimum wage decision, awarding an increase of $21.66 a week to the standard federal minimum wage. AFPC Chair Professor Ian Harper said, "This year's increase equates to a rise of 4.2%, or 57 cents an hour, and brings the weekly minimum wage rate to $543.78." The $21.66 a week increase applies to the federal minimum wage as well as to adult rates in all Australian Pay and Classification Scales and will flow on to juniors, people in training arrangements and workers with a disability. Low paid workers will receive the wage increase from October 1 this year. To find out more about the minimum wage increase go to www.fairpay.gov.au |
