The Transport Workers’ Union is calling on Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s to clarify his pledge to improve Queensland’s roads.
“Mr Abbott said this morning said he would pledge $1 billion to improve the Gateway motorway without using tolls,” TWU State Secretary Peter Biagini said.
“But what about the rest of the State and the crucial Cairns-to-Brisbane Bruce Highway upgrade? What is Mr Abbott’s plan?”
“This is an election year, and if Mr Abbott is serious about leading this country and investing in the future, the people of Queensland demand a plan from the coalition about what they would do.”
“If Mr Abbott is elected as Prime Minister, we deserve to see how he would lead this state and this country.”
The TWU are also calling on the Newman Government to work with the Federal Government and outline their plan to show how they would lead Queensland.
“We have a State Government that is breaking this State to save money, and are we not seeing any improvements or proof of where this money is being reinvested.”
“Our vehicle registration prices are going up, our public transport costs are going up, jobs are being slashed, hospitals, TAFE’s and schools are being closed, all with no improvements and nothing being done for the people of this state.”
“Queensland’s infrastructure is at a critical and we need a government that will lead.”
