A Sunshine Coast Bus Driver was the victim to knife-wielding thieves Sunday night as two passengers climbed on board and demanded money.
And while the attackers walked away with the till, the driver was left visibly shaken.
Transport Workers’ Union Branch Secretary Peter Biagini said the TWU will follow the outcome of the events closely.
“We will be watching closely on the outcome of this event to see what penalties and measures the Government and our authorities apply,” Mr Biagini said.
“This driver was threatened and robbed at knife-point, this is a serious issue.”
“Thankfully these attackers did not strike the driver, this time, and that there was no one else on board who could have been harmed,” Mr Biagini said.
“But look at the past 12 months and look at what attackers have been doing to our drivers.”
“Even when a driver ends up in hospital and the lives of the travelling public are put in harms way, these violent attackers are being given a slap on the wrist.”
“We need harsher penalties for all bus driver attackers, and we need this government to step up and put measures in place to safe guard drivers.”
“We want all driver’s to be able to do their job safely, and go home at the end of the day.”
