Transport Workers’ Union QLD is calling on the QLD Government to take action and stop
risking the lives of Queensland’s Bus Drivers and transport users following another bus
attack on a Logan driver this afternoon.
“Someone has thrown a soft-drink can at the driver, smashing the front window and
causing head injuries,” Mr Biagini said.
“And for what?
“This is another attack on someone doing their job for our community, an attack on
someone carrying our most valuable cargo, people.”
“What is it going to take for this State Government to show it cares and to start improving
the safety for our drivers and finally recognise the significance of these crimes.”
Mr Biagini said the spate of attacks on bus drivers across the state proves this issue is not
localised and that it is up to the Queensland Government to step in, take action and
punish these offenders.
‘This driver could have lost an eye, crashed, and killed everyone on board, ” Mr Biagini
said, “But if recent examples are the norm then this offender will walk away free.”
A Gold Coast youth who through an iron bar through a bus window recently walked
away from court with a slap on the wrist, which is simple not acceptable.
“These attacks are causing serious mental and physical damage that will kill someone,
but no one is taking this seriously, especially not this government.”
