Several accidents have brought M1 southbound traffic to a halt today, and the need for safety and vigilance over the long weekend is essential, said Peter Biagini, Transport Workers’ Union Queensland Branch Secretary today.
“There was an incident today where a truck has rolled over, as well as several other accidents which have brought the M1 to a halt” said Biagini.
“It is absolutely essential that this weekend as more people take to our roads, they need to be vigilant and safe while driving”
“When people are distracted on the road, tragedies happen”
There will be many more cars on the road as families make the best of the free time and perfect weather over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
“Our economy is reliant on transport workers, and despite it being a long weekend they’re still going to be working to keep the shelves stocked in supermarkets, petrol at the bowser and transporting the goods that we need and rely on”
“At highway speeds, a truck will take much longer to stop than a car would, so people need to be responsible and courteous on the road”
“We are urging the public to be mindful that they are in the truckies workplace when they are on the road, and they need to be incredibly careful while driving on what will be a crowded road on a busy weekend”
“People deserve to leave home safe and get home safe, no matter if you’re driving a car or a truck”
