PATIENCE & AWARENESS KEY TO STAYING ALIVE THIS EASTER

‘It is better to get to your destination late and safe than not at all.’

The Transport Workers’ Union are urging all motorists to have extra patience and drive with care this Easter period in a bid to encourage greater awareness and safer driving.

TWU Queensland State Secretary Peter Biagini said the most important thing for motorists to remember is to get you and your family to your destination safely.

‘The roads are busier in our holiday periods and there are more truckies out there delivering the food and fuel we need,’ Mr Biagini said.

‘With that comes a lot of responsibility for both truckies and motorists.’

‘Every year hundreds of people are killed in truck crashes and thousands more are injured, devastating families, communities and workplaces.’

‘To have greater awareness of each other on our roads and to understand that trucks and buses cannot stop or manoeuvre like a small car will help keep our road toll down,’ Mr Biagini said.

‘A truck driver is someone out there on the road trying to make a living.’

‘This Easter we are calling on both truckies and motorists to have patience, take care and to have a greater awareness of each other on our roads.’

‘There are no excuses, nothing is more important than getting to your destination safely and it is better to get to your destination late and safe than not at all.’
