TWU members at Sunbus Cairns will be stopping work for 24 hours from 5am on Friday, after a meeting with Sunbus management failed to provide any meaningful progress.
TWU Queensland Branch Secretary Peter Biagini says that he is disappointed with Sunbus management.
“Our members at Sunbus don’t want to have to take action – it’s only ever a last resort” said Biagini.
“Sunbus seem happy to try and wriggle around in negotiations, but at the end of the day these drivers make the decision, and they’re saying that it’s not good enough”
“Every time we’ve gone to Sunbus, they’ve told us that Translink won’t fund the wage increases, so why aren’t they calling on Translink to do so?”
“Sunbus want to remain the cheapest, easiest option – at the expense of their employees”
“Sunbus and Translink need to come together to make sure that these drivers aren’t being ripped off, and that they get a fair wage for what they do”
Drivers will be stopping work from 5am Friday morning, with a picket to be held outside of the Sunbus depot.
