Over the last three weeks despite your Union bargaining team’s desire for a serious exchange of ideas, very little bargaining took place at the regular weekly EBA9 meeting over the last weeks. This only confirms what our Union has been saying for quite a while – Brisbane City Council needs persuasion.
We still have very little progress toward achieving our job security provisions. Council has agreed that they will treat labour hire employees as internal applicants which would be a great win. However, they refuse to put the agreement into the EBA. they also refuse to look at a labour hire conversion clause or strengthen the contracting out protections. Council also refuses to lift its pay offer and continues to state that they have put their final offer.
On Tuesday the majority of the of the unions agreed that it’s time to escalate the actions we are taking.
Today a number of Unions including the TWU will be notifying Council of a 4 hour stop work between
- 10 am and 2 pm on Wednesday the 2nd of August
- 9 pm and 1 am commencing on Wednesday the 2nd of August
Unions will be rallying outside of Town Hall in King George Square from 11.30am, on Wednesday the 2nd of August, for a 12 noon start. Every TWU Member is needed to support this action.
Things will develop and possibly change quickly over the next three days and we intend to meet with Council next Tuesday to try and progress discussions.
Council supervisors and managers are likely to react poorly or say things that may concern members. The Council may also lock out us out for the whole day or attempt to bring in alternative Labour. Remember as a TWU member and a permanent employee of BCC you have the right to participate in protected action. As things come to light we will keep members informed.
If you have any concerns please call your delegate Wayne Doolan on 0408 702 351 or Troy Fernandez on 0411 875 909
