Over the last four weeks, the combined Unions have met with council three times.
Management representatives continue to state in EBA meetings that feedback they are receiving is that a majority of employees support the Councils proposed EBA.
Our members are telling us that the offer is not good enough. We still are getting very little progress on contracting out protections. Council also refuses to lift its pay offer and continues to state that they have put their final offer.
However, we have had some progress. The Council have now agreed that they will treat labour hire employees as internal applicants when applying for vacant Council positions and since the last stoppage agreed to put the clause into the EBA! This is a great bit of progress and all members who supported the stoppage should be proud of what they have achieved.
We need to keep the pressure on. Last week nearly all Unions including the TWU notified Council of a 4 hour stop work between
- 10 am and 2 pm on Thursday the 31st of August. And also
- 1 am and 5 am commencing on Friday the 1st of September
Unions will be holding another rally outside of Town Hall in King George Square from 12 Noon, on Thursday the 31st of August, every TWU Member is needed to support this action.
The Union has organised a bus to pick up members from Eagle Farm depot (228 Curtain Ave West) @ 11 am and depart from King George square @ 1.30 pm to return members to the depot.
Council supervisors and managers may react poorly or say things that may concern members. The Council may also lock out us out for the whole day or attempt to bring in alternative Labour. Remember as a TWU member and a permanent employee of BCC you have the right to participate in protected action, and if management asks, you do not need to declare that you are or aren’t participating in the industrial action.
