IN-PRINCIPLE AGREEMENT REACHED AT TOLL

After months of negotiations, your TWU has finally brought TOLL to the table to achieve a fair deal which will see pay and conditions protected for TOLL employees.


To date, your TWU negotiating team led by 18 delegates from across Australia, has had six rounds of bargaining meetings with Toll Management in March, April, June, July and August.

After mounting pressure on Toll through our recent yard meetings and PAB, we have had a massive breakthrough and reached an in-principle agreement that meets the key claim – improving life for you, your friends, and your family!

WHAT WE’VE WON

There’s a raft of improvements to your working life in this in-principle agreement.

Full utilisation will be safeguarded – with weekend overtime offered to permanent workers and owner drivers ahead of casual and outside hire.

Casual conversion will be made easier, with TOLL being forbidden to unreasonably refuse to convert – including outside hire and TOLL People.

Your job security has been safeguarded, with 30 day payments and protection for Owner Driver cost recovery – as well as increased auditing across the supply chain.

Dispute resolution and the status quo has been enshrined, with the current clause being maintained.

You’ve also won improved redundancy provisions in case the worst does happen.

As for flexibility, there will be no changes to the span of hours and your penalty rates will be protected!

Superannuation

Over the life of the agreement, your superannuation will be raised to 14.75% – the highest of any transport company in Australia, with yearly increases of:

  • Year 1: 0.5% (13%)
  • Year 2: 0.75% (13.75%)
  • Year 3: 1% (14.75%)

The first increase will be backdated to 1 July 2017.

Pay

Increases of 7% (pay and super).

Yearly increases of:

  • Year 1: $750 sign on bonus – for all workers including owner drivers
  • Year 2: 2% 
  • Year 3: 3%

These increases will also have a safety net, if CPI outstrips the combined increase to pay and super – you will receive whichever is greater.

As well as pay and super, parental leave and family and domestic violence leave have been enshrined in this in-principle agreement.

There will be improvements to consultation and training, with TOLL committing to support TEACHO and participate in industry education processes.

International provisions have been enshrined, with TOLL committing to work with your TWU to develop best practice and standards.

All permanent drivers will also be afforded indemnity insurance, and drug and alcohol testing will be limited to saliva only and will be able to be challenged through dispute resolution.

Why this is a deal worth voting for?

This in-principle agreement has been a major turnaround, with the pressure that you as members have placed upon TOLL forcing them to come back to the table.

At the beginning of the bargaining Toll told us that we would have to accept:

  • Wage and super freezes
  • Delegates rights and union protection would be stripped
  • Overtime and penalty rates would be cut

These are just a few of the things that TOLL told you that you would have to accept – but as union members you have stood up and fought back!

Hours, penalty rates and security were fought for and won, protecting take home pay for the life of the agreement!
