In the wake of the MH17 tragedy which has struck the heart of Australians and people the world over, your TWU is at the front line of the drive to keep Aviation workers and passengers safe in the sky.
We stand with Queenslanders and Australians across our nation in remembering those we lost.
TWU National Secretary Tony Sheldon has stepped up the fight for safe skies, with a focus in flights over conflict zones.
Tony Sheldon announced today that he would seek international support for action to force air safety regulators to take their responsibilities seriously in preventing commercial flights from passing over conflict zones.
“Commercial flights are still routed over conflict zones, placing passengers and air crew at risk. Airline managements are playing Russian Roulette with their passengers’ lives,” he said.
Your TWU will be seeking to lodge the issue with the International Transport Federation, representing 648,000 Aviation workers in 121 countries.
